LOS ANGELES (AP) - More than 10,000 police officers and firefighters are expected to attend the World Police and Fire Games, which will be held in Los Angeles this summer.

Organizers said Wednesday the annual event is one of the largest sports competitions for first responders. It will be held from Aug. 7 to Aug. 16.

Organizers say first responders from 70 countries are expected to participate in 65 sports from baseball and basketball to motocross and table tennis.

Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck, who participates every year, says it will be a “world class event.”

An opening ceremony will be held at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
