NARROWS, Va. (AP) - A tractor-trailer has gone over a cliff, spilling its cargo of plastic crates and sending a passenger to the hospital with serious injuries.

Local news outlets report Giles County Sheriff Morgan Millirons says that the truck ran off the highway in Giles County on Tuesday evening. It struck the guardrail and went over the concrete barrier before overturning. The cargo spilled onto the roadway, while the vehicle landed in the lanes lower down the mountainside.

Officials say an unidentified adult male passenger was seriously injured and airlifted to a hospital. No word yet on that person’s condition.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
