BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A man has pleaded not guilty in the shooting of his girlfriend who was left paralyzed from the chest down.

The Advocate (https://bit.ly/2odZimt) reports that prosecutors say 46-year-old Carl Thompson Jr. entered the plea on Wednesday to a charge of attempted second-degree murder.

Thompson is accused of shooting 41-year-old Angela Gabriel multiple times while she sat in the bathtub in late February. The mother of four and real estate agent was hit in the chest and right arm 10 times.

Thompson’s lawyer, Mark Simmons, says he hopes the case can move forward in a way that is “best for both parties.” Simmons maintains his client’s innocence on the charge.
