President Trump welcomed 50 Wounded Warriors to the White House to kick-start the annual Soldier Ride bicycling event Thursday, calling the veterans “real heroes.”

“I call them America’s winners because they’re winners,” Mr. Trump said at the reception in the East Room.

The president welcomed the assembled crowd to the “people’s house.” He then turned the wounded veterans on stage with him, who were dressed in black Wounded Warrior Project sweatsuits, and told them they were “amazing.”

“Let’s have a great ride because, I’ll tell you what, I couldn’t do it,” Mr. Trump said to chuckles frOm the crowd.

The Soldier Ride is a multi-day, rehabilitative bicycle ride designed to help veterans recover from the physical and psychological wounds of war. The event is conducted in collaboration with the Wounded Warrior Project.
