SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A Lawrence man charged with strangling his fiancee has been indicted and faces arraignment in Superior Court next month.

The Eagle-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2oIMR38 ) that 32-year-old Tony Ventura is scheduled to be arraigned on a murder charge May 9.

Prosecutors say Ventura strangled 32-year-old Maria Morton during an argument in January. Ventura was arrested hours after Morton was found dead in her apartment.

He has been held without bail since pleading not guilty in district court.

Ventura’s attorneys say their client is a heroin addict in rehab and suffers from depression induced by lead poisoning.

Morton’s brother, Michael, was charged with disorderly conduct and disrupting a court proceeding after jumping over the railing of the courtroom during Ventura’s district court arraignment. The charges were continued without a finding.
