MILWAUKEE (AP) - Authorities say a man was found dead inside a Waukesha County home after a shootout and standoff with police.

The Journal Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/2nWoMBM) that New Berlin police responded to a call about shots being fired just before 9 p.m. on Friday. When officers arrived, the suspect fired on them and they fired back before he retreated into his home.

Police say the tactical team was able to make phone contact, but the suspect refused to come out. Officers stormed the house after a standoff of several hours and the man was found dead inside.

It was not immediately clear whether the man killed himself or was fatally wounded in the shootout with police.
