NEW YORK (AP) - A 73-year-old man who was badly burned on Friday after he opened a mysterious package that exploded has died.

Police say George Wray died on Tuesday at Nassau University Medical Center after suffering second- and third-degree burns.

Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce says the package, which was in the shape of an oatmeal container, had been left on his doorstep and was rigged to detonate when opened. He says the blast left behind “substantial evidence.”

Neighbors told reporters the man was doubled over in flames and was on fire when emergency crews arrived.

The victim was the owner of the Queens building but didn’t live there. Police didn’t think the package had been sent through the mail.

There have been no arrests
