CHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities have recovered what appears to be the body of a 16-year-old girl who went missing after a late-night collision involving two personal watercrafts on a Massachusetts river.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan says the body was recovered from the Merrimack River in Chelmsford on Monday. Her name was not released.
Police Chief James Spinney says officers responded to the river at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday and learned the girl had been a passenger on a craft that was struck by another from the rear.
Authorities say the operator of the other craft, 32-year-old Douglas Dematos, of Lowell, was charged with several offenses including operating while drunk.
Dematos was arraigned Monday in his hospital bed. He’s being held on $7,500 bail. It could not be determined if he has a lawyer.
