NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A New Orleans man has been convicted of raping at gunpoint a 7-year-old girl who contracted a sexually transmitted disease following the October 2014 incident.
NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports that jurors returned verdicts Friday night finding 26-year-old Andrew Hunter Jr. guilty of all five counts he faced. Hunter was convicted of charges including second-degree kidnapping and aggravated burglary, and is to receive a mandatory life prison term when sentenced Sept. 15.
Investigators say the victim tested positive for chlamydia about three weeks after her rape. Her mother told investigators that she also contracted the STD after having consensual sex with Hunter, as the two previously had a relationship.
State police determined a DNA sample matched seminal fluid recovered from the victim.
Defense attorney Martin Regan denied that his client ever had chlamydia.
