JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Florida prosecutor is charging two police officers in her area in separate incidents.

The Florida Times-Union reports that State Attorney Melissa Nelson recently filed a misdemeanor battery charge against Jacksonville police officer Tim James and three felony counts of grand theft against Neptune Beach police officer Chris Ortiz.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested James in June after he was accused of beating a handcuffed teenager in the back of a patrol car.

Neptune Beach police say Ortiz resigned while he was his internal affairs investigation was pending. He was accused of stealing from people he had pulled over following an undercover sting.

Jail records didn’t list attorneys for either man.
