INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) - A 44-year-old Independence man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his part in a burglary that critically injured a homeowner and resulted in the death of an alleged robber.

Phillip Kisner was sentenced Wednesday for second-degree murder and first-degree assault in the March 2015 crime.

The Independence Examiner reports 16-year-old Dylan Thompson was shot to death during the burglary.

Jimmy Faseler was shot when he found the burglars inside his home.

A third man, 20-year-old Dustin Donlan, pleaded guilty in August 2016 to burglary in exchange for testimony against Kisner. He was given a five-year suspended sentence and three years’ probation last month.

Kisner was in a relationship with Thompson’s mother at the time of the burglary.
