GASTON, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a 24-year-old mother.
Media outlets report the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office said in a statement that 27-year-old James Richard Elledge Jr. fired a gun and then chased a Jeep Cherokee that Madison Leslie Leavitt was riding in on Nov. 7, 2015.
Witnesses told investigators that Elledge was a well-known dealer of methamphetamine. While the driver of the Jeep was a past acquaintance of Elledge, Assistant Solicitor Bradley Pogue says Leavitt was an innocent bystander who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Elledge will not be a candidate for parole.
