NORTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are seeking the driver of a stolen car who they say crashed into a parked vehicle and drove on a sidewalk before striking a teenager.

Somerset County prosecutors say North Plainfield police spotted the stolen vehicle around 3 p.m. Friday. They say the driver sped up when he saw the police cruiser, but the officers didn’t initiate a pursuit.

The stolen car soon struck the parked vehicle, then went onto the sidewalk and hit the teen. The driver then drove for about another 500 feet and struck a utility pole.

The driver then fled on foot. But two other people in the stolen car were arrested at the scene.

The injured teen was hospitalized in stable condition. But further details about the teen’s injuries were not disclosed.
