ENUMCLAW, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say a King County deputy shot and wounded a man who was armed with a rifle during a domestic disturbance in Enumclaw.

King County sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindi West says the man pointed a rifle at deputies Tuesday morning and refused orders to drop it. One deputy fired several shots at the man, wounding him.

KOMO-TV reports the man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries. He has not been identified.

West says a woman and two children were able to escape the home. The woman suffered back and leg injuries during the domestic disturbance before deputies arrived.

West says a deputy responding to the call at 4 a.m. heard a noise and saw a light go on and off in the back of the house. A deputy wore night vision goggles and spotted a man approach outside the home.

The deputy who fired his gun is an 18-year veteran of the department.
