ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Fire tore through a two-story Southern California apartment building early Thursday morning, sending dozens of residents fleeing to safety as their residences were destroyed or heavily damaged.

Arcadia firefighters were joined by others from other agencies in battling flames that spread along the roof and upper-floor units shortly after 6 a.m.

Residents say they were alerted by shouts of “fire” and pounded on doors to awaken neighbors.

Arcadia Deputy Fire Chief Barry Spriggs told the Pasadena Star-News (https://bit.ly/2u5oA6t) no residents were injured but three firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and one was taken to a hospital.

In all, the fire affected 14 apartment units and displaced more than 40 people.
