PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota man has been sentenced to 87 years in prison on sexual abuse charges.

Forty-three-year-old Christian Thomas, of Plankinton, was convicted in May on 26 counts, including rape, sexual contact with a child under 16, and possession of child pornography.

Authorities say the charges stem from incidents that involved two minor victims.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says the horrific facts in the case justify the lengthy sentence, which he says is needed to protect the public.
