NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A prosecutor says a woman stole more than $919,000 from an eastern Pennsylvania health care consulting firm while working as its human resources director.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele on Monday announced theft charges against 31-year-old Christine Cushman, of Amity Township.

A bank notified HighPoint Solutions‘ payroll department that the significant direct deposits had been made to Cushman’s personal account more than two years ago.

HighPoint’s chief financial officer reported the matter to East Norriton Township police who found Cushman was issuing fraudulent payroll checks in the names of four former subcontractors who no longer did business with HighPoint, and deposited the money in her account. Steele says that happened between May 5, 2015 and June 15, 2015.

Cushman is free on bond awaiting a preliminary hearing Aug. 22. Her attorney didn’t immediately comment Tuesday.
