FORT PIERCE, Fla. (AP) - Officials say a house fire in Florida has killed a pet dog and displaced two people.

News outlets report firefighters arrived at the home Tuesday around 11:40 a.m.

St. Lucie County Fire District public information officer Brenda Stokes says when firefighters arrived, flames were coming out of the home. The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes.

Stokes says the fire displaced a man and woman and the Red Cross was called to assist them.

Officials believe the fire started in the carport, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
