JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A baked pecan pie is among the items confiscated during another surprise search of a Mississippi prison for contraband.

The Clarion-Ledger reports the Mississippi Department of Corrections said in a news release Thursday that the shakedown at a prison work camp at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman resulted in the confiscation of “more contraband than expected.”

In addition to the pie, the bounty found Wednesday included gang paraphernalia, marijuana, canned and leaf tobacco, cellphones and cellphone chargers. There were also two empty whiskey bottles, lighters, a drug scale, tennis shoes, over-the-counter pain relievers, shanks and extension cords.

Corrections Commissioner Pelicia E. Hall says some contraband was expected since the minimum security inmates go out each day and perform various jobs. But, the amount found, she says, “is unacceptable.”
