SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Officials in Salt Lake County have passed a resolution urging the federal government to rescind the executive order by President Donald Trump that halts refugee intake and places limitations on travel.
The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/2jDnloX ) that the Salt Lake County Council voted in favor of the resolution Tuesday. The executive order banns nearly all forms of travel to the country from seven majority-Muslim nations and halts the processing of refugees.
Salt Lake County Councilor Arlyn Bradshaw, a Democrat, says he wrote the resolution because he wanted to show that local leaders stand in solidarity with refugees living in the county.
Two of the nine council members voted against the resolution. Steve DeBry and Aimee Winder Newton, both Republicans, said it was inappropriate to venture into the business of the federal government.
