LEXINGTON, N.C. (AP) - The N.C. Highway Patrol has charged a Virginia man in connection with a fatal weekend accident on Interstate 85 in Davidson County.

Local media outlets report 31-year-old Anthony Nicholas Sloan of Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, died when a pickup truck headed south on I-85 blew a tire, went across the median and hit two cars.

Lexington Fire Department commander Paul Jarrett said four people were taken to the hospital by ambulance while another person was airlifted from the scene. Jarrett said one person refused treatment at the scene of Sunday’s crash.

The patrol charged 51-year-old Joseph Harrison Walls of Ringgold, Virginia, with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving with an unsafe tire.
