GORHAM, Maine (AP) - A Maine engineering group is providing grants so students can go to the Maine Engineering Expo at University of Southern Maine.

The expo is scheduled for March 4. The Maine Engineering Promotional Council says it is giving $500 grants to 16 schools to help defer the cost of transportation.

The council says the grants will make it possible for more students who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math to get to the expo. Several of the grants are going to schools in rural parts of the state.

The engineering council’s board is made up of academics and industry professionals. The council has provided bus grants to Maine schools for four years.
