WASHINGTON (AP) - Prince George’s County police are investigating whether a driver who struck and killed a man with a car acted in self-defense.

Police say in a statement that officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck Monday morning in the parking lot of an Upper Marlboro shopping center. When they arrived, they found that 21-year-old Nathaniel McKinnon had been hit by a car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver, whose name hasn’t been released, may have intentionally hit McKinnon. McKinnon was armed with an assault rifle at the time of his death.

Detectives are consulting with the State’s Attorney’s Office on any potential charges in the case.
