LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a 3-year-old boy has died in a fire in Lowell.
The blaze in the multi-family home on Parker Street was reported at about 6:30 a.m. Friday.
Fire Chief Jeffrey Winward at first said the boy had been rescued from the building and taken to the hospital in critical condition.
At a news conference later in the morning attended by Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, authorities confirmed that the child had died.
About 10 other residents made it out of the three-family home, although a man and another boy as well as one firefighter were hospitalized for treatment of smoke inhalation. Another firefighter suffered a minor injury but was not hospitalized.
The cause remains under investigation.
