MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A Montgomery police officer and a woman were hurt in a two-vehicle crash in Montgomery.

It happened Friday about 1 p.m.

Police Chief Ernest Finley tells WSFA-TV (https://bit.ly/2m5QDyl ) the injured officer was identified as 22-year-old Carlos Taylor, who’s been on the force for two years.

Finley says Taylor was in an unmarked police car and responding to help another officer who needed assistance when he crashed with another vehicle. There was major damage to both vehicles.

Taylor and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to Baptist Medical Center South, where Taylor is in critical condition. The woman, whose name has not been released, is stable.

It’s unclear what led to the crash. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has taken over the investigation.
