BLOOMFIELD, N.Y. (AP) - An upstate New York woman has been arrested on charges she abandoned her two ferrets named Malice and Mayhem.

The Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester reports (https://on.rocne.ws/2lVTIFc ) that 40-year-old Sharon Anemaet was arrested Friday on charges of animal abandonment and animal cruelty.

The Ontario County Humane Society says two people saw Anemaet letting the ferrets loose at an apartment complex in Bloomfield. The society says one of the witnesses captured the animals.

Anemaet was arrested and was being held at the Ontario County Jail in lieu of bail. It’s not clear if she has an attorney to could speak for her.

The humane society is caring for the ferrets.

Ferrets are legal in most of New York state although it is illegal to own them in New York City.
