FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say an 83-year-old driver struck and seriously injured a pedestrian before fleeing the scene.

Bergen County prosecutors say Hans Jochimsen is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury

The accident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday, when a 57-year-old New York City man was struck as he crossed Lemoine Avenue in Fort Lee. The man was taken to a hospital and remained there Monday in critical but stable condition.

Prosecutors say an investigation determined that Jochimsen was driving the car, and the Fort Lee man was arrested. But further details about the investigation have not been disclosed.

A telephone number for Jochimsen could not be located Monday. It wasn’t known if he’s retained an attorney.
