BARRE, Vt. (AP) - A man accused of killing twin elderly sisters in a crash in Barre, Vermont, has told police he was speeding in a truck with bad brakes so his passenger could make her methadone appointment.
Shaun Duprey pleaded not guilty Thursday to two felony counts of gross negligent operation with death resulting. His bail was set at $25,000.
Killed in Wednesday’s crash were driver Teresa White and passenger Verna Cote, identical twin sisters who were 80.
The Times Argus reports (https://bit.ly/2li1yEU ) police say the 32-year-old Duprey told them the brakes on his truck didn’t work as he saw a light turn red. They said a records check showed Duprey’s license was suspended.
Family and friends said the sisters were inseparable.
