JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Police in Jacksonville say they have arrested a 63-year-old man in connection with his wife’s shooting death.

A police report indicates that Larry James Hawkins was arrested early Sunday at his home in Jacksonville on charges of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a certain person and aggravated assault on a family member. =

Officers responded to the house about 1 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a shooting. The police report says the victim’s son told police that his father had shot his mother. Investigators found the victim with a gunshot wound on the floor of a bedroom. Her name has not been made public.

Hawkins told detectives that “it was an accident.” He is being held in the Pulaski County jail and no bond was initially set.
