LAS VEGAS (AP) - A jury in Las Vegas is sparing a 37-year-old woman from the death penalty, but says she should spend life in prison without parole for getting a man to murder her husband in 2010.

If Brandy Stutzman had been sentenced to death, she would’ve been the only woman on death row in Nevada.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2kx5XHf ) the same Clark County District Court jury that convicted Brandy Stutzman of murder decided her sentence Thursday.

The man who stabbed Joe Stutzman, 26-year-old Jeremiah Merriweather, pleaded guilty before trial. He faces 21 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced.

Prosecutors told jurors that Brandy Stutzman wanted her husband dead for his life insurance.

Her lawyers argued that Merriweather killed Joe Stutzman because he loved Brandy Stutzman.
