FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - A Hagerstown man will spend 10 years in prison for his role in the fatal shooting of a woman near Frederick on Christmas Eve 2014.

Media outlets report 22-year-old Curtis Eugene Evans was sentenced on Thursday in Frederick County Circuit Court. Evans pleaded guilty in December to accessory after the fact to first-degree murder in the slaying of 20-year-old Malicia Smith of Hagerstown.

Authorities say Smith had been riding in a vehicle with Evans and his co-defendant, 21-year-old Neajee (nee-AH’-zhay) Terry, the night she was killed. Either Evans or Terry shot Smith three times and left her body on the side of U.S. 40. Neither acknowledged pulling the trigger and blame each other for the fatal shooting.

Terry is serving a 25-year sentence for murder conspiracy in the case.
