BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A Billings accountant who pleaded guilty to embezzling from the Crow Indian Tribe has been sentenced to two years of federal probation and must pay $30,000 in restitution.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2kqE7K6 ) 43-year-old Karla Elizabeth MacCatherine was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Susan Watters. MacCatherine pleaded guilty in October to embezzlement from an Indian tribal organization.

Prosecutors alleged that MacCatherine never completed the 2013 audit she was hired to do, overstated her work hours, billed for hours while she was on vacation and twice reimbursed herself for the same $8,300 in expenses.

MacCatherine told the judge she took the money for her personal use.
