WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - A trucker has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a six-vehicle, chain-reaction crash on U.S. 52 that killed a 9-year-old boy and a couple from Mount Airy more than two years ago.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2kMXLjG) 51-year-old Kelly Scott Kennedy of Liberty pleaded guilty in court Thursday to three counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the accident north of Winston-Salem on Oct. 30, 2014. Eight people were injured in the crash.
Court records show Kennedy failed to stop and hit a minivan carrying a family heading home after a funeral. Nine-year-old Jeremy Crymes of Minooka, Illinois, was killed instantly.
The 18-wheeler also ran over the top of a car, killing 51-year-old Jesse Hickman. His wife, 55-year-old Felicia Hickman, died two weeks later.
