BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man accused of killing his wife will attempt to represent himself in court.

Police say 32-year-old Jeremiah E. Monell, of Cedarville, stabbed his estranged wife to death on Dec. 19. Monell was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Tara O’Shea-Watson.

Monell is currently represented by a public defender. The Daily Journal reports (https://vineland.dj/2iBj5Xe) Monell asked to address the court during a pre-trial detention hearing. Judge Cristen D’Arrigo advised Monell not to.

D’Arrigo has ordered Monell to appear at a hearing on Jan. 17. Monell will be required to file a motion in order to represent himself.
