NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - An investigation into a fatal shooting of a teenager at a New Jersey public housing complex continued Thursday.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office says a 16-year-old boy was killed and three people were injured Wednesday evening at the John Hyatt Court complex in Newark. The prosecutor said one person suffered “grave” injuries.

Authorities didn’t release the boy’s name.

Herbert Waldron told NJ.com his grandson was the person killed. Waldron said his daughter, the boy’s mother, had moved to the complex for safety reasons after her former house was shot at over the summer.

“This is just not a community problem. This problem is bigger than that, it’s our system,” Waldron said. “I just want justice for my grandson.”

Several people in the area said they heard multiple gunshots and saw a car fleeing. In another part of the city, police later found the vehicle they believe may be connected to the shooting.
