CANTON, Miss. (AP) - A Madison County couple is in custody, accused of felony child abuse after the Department of Human Services did a welfare check at their home and found a severely malnourished 10-year-old boy.
Authorities say 32-year-old Latasha Leonard and 30-year-old Anthony Holiday each was arrested on a charge of felony child abuse and felony child neglect. Judge Marsha Stacey set bond Thursday at $500,000 for each charge, or $1 million total for each defendant. It was unknown if either is represented by an attorney.
The child is the eldest of the couple’s eight children.
The Clarion-Ledger reports (https://on.thec-l.com/2jgSceq ) Madison County District Attorney Michael Guest says there are no immediate signs of abuse or malnutrition in the other children, the youngest of whom is just a few months old.
