1 p.m.

Phoenix police say they’ve arrested a 35-year-old man in a fatal hit-and-run in which the victim’s body was dragged several blocks.

According to police, a vehicle that failed to stop struck 24-year-old Karlson Hanks as he ran across a street early Saturday morning and information then provided by a witness enabled officers to locate the vehicle and Hanks’ body lodged under the vehicle.

Sgt. Mercedes Fortune says Elvin Vasquez Mejia was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death or injury, a misdemeanor warrant and driving with a suspended license.

It’s not clear whether Mejia has an attorney who could comment on the allegations.

Fortune says impairment by drugs or alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
