MIZE, Miss. (AP) - Officials say one teenager has been killed and another was hospitalized after a motorcycle crash involving a Smith County sheriff’s deputy.

Local news outlets report that Smith County Sheriff Charlie Crumpton says the deputy was responding to an alarm call when he struck a dirt bike with two juveniles on it early Sunday morning near Mize.

The deputy was not in pursuit at the time of the crash.

Smith County Coroner Billy Allen says 14-year-old Brandon Cross Duvall was pronounced dead at the scene. Thirteen-year-old Tristen Hernandez was taken to the hospital, where he remained as of Monday evening. His condition is unknown.

Authorities have not identified the deputy involved in the crash.

Allen says an autopsy has been scheduled for Duvall on Tuesday.
