MAGEE, Miss. (AP) - The cafeteria in a Mississippi elementary school is closed because bats have nested in the ceiling, and contractors are working to remove them.

Authorities say the vermin were discovered last week at Magee Elementary School south of Jackson. The Mississippi State Department of Health was notified immediately.

WAPT-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2iGLz6f ) cafeteria workers have been moved to other schools in Simpson County. Students are being taken by bus to have their lunch period at Magee Middle School and Magee High School.

Department officials suggested for the school to secure the area and move the children and all adults out while the bats were being removed.

Officials hope to have the removal completed by this weekend and everyone back and the cafeteria reopened by Monday.
