NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A law official says strong winds have cause “heavy damage” to some homes in a town in Bossier Parish.

Lt. Bill Davis from the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office said Saturday the damage is in Plain Dealing, a rural town in the northern part of the parish.

Officials are trying to assess the damage.

Large swathes of the state have been under tornado watches or warnings at various times Saturday evening.

But Davis says officials don’t know whether the wind damage was caused by a tornado.

Cynthia Palmer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Shreveport, says they’ve received reports of damage but cannot confirm a tornado in that area. She says survey teams will likely go out Sunday and Monday to assess.
