CARENCRO, La. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after they say someone intentionally poured used motor oil into a neighborhood storm drainage system.

Media outlets report that emergency crews were called to the scene in Carencro on Sunday when neighbors noticed an oil solution coming from a storm drain in a coulee.

Lafayette fire spokesman Alton Trahan says authorities discovered that a nearby resident changed the oil in his 18-wheeler truck and then dumped it in the drain.

Authorities estimate that 10 gallons of used oil had been poured into the drain, which runs into the creek.

Trahan says officials were able to contain most of the substance.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality will conduct a further investigation in the intentional release of the oil.
