FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - The body of a man found in a Lauderdale County corn field has been identified and authorities have a suspect in the man’s death in custody.
Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Richard Richey tells WAAY-TV (https://bit.ly/2jnrlNK ) that the body of 29-year-old Justin Kyle Merriner was found Monday, shot to death in a car. And, Richey says Merriner’s brother-in-law, 33-year-old Robert Hastings, of Florence, faces a charge of murder, possession of marijuana and probation violation. No bond has been set.
Richey says Hastings went to his sister’s home and picked up Merriner to go on a drug deal with him. He says Hastings called his sister later, asking her to pick him up because the deal went bad. She asked him what happened to Merriner and he said he didn’t know.
