DEWITT, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve charged two teenage boys with shooting at a police detective conducting surveillance of a drug suspect’s suburban Syracuse apartment.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says Wednesday a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested late Wednesday and charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Deputies say the teens fired at a sheriff’s detective as he sat in his unmarked car while it was parked at the Springfield Garden Apartments as police conducted a drug surveillance operation.

Authorities say the bullets narrowly missed the detective but he was injured by shattered glass. He was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

Two handguns were recovered.

The subject of the surveillance, a 31-year-old man living at the apartment complex in the town of DeWitt, was charged Tuesday with selling and possessing narcotics.
