BOSTON (AP) - A Massachusetts man convicted in a Rhode Island federal court of plotting to distribute narcotics has been sentenced to serve a year and a day in prison for escaping from a halfway house.
The Herald News reports (https://bit.ly/2kr6FSu ) 30-year-old Jason Barreto, of Fall River, was sentenced on Tuesday after pleading guilty to escape from federal custody.
Barreto was convicted in 2011 of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone. He was sentenced to nearly six years in prison.
Authorities say Barreto walked out of the Coolidge House Residential Re-entry Center in Boston without permission in September 2015, less than two months before he was scheduled to be freed, and didn’t return.
Federal marshals found him in Atlantic City, New Jersey the following April.
