ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - A grand jury cleared an Atlantic City police officer who killed a man who critically wounded his partner.
The panel on Wednesday declined to bring charges stemming from the shooting that occurred near the Caesars Atlantic City parking garage in September 2016. Prosecutors said the shooting happened after the officers saw three men trying to rob three others.
Prosecutors say Officer Joshlee Vadell was shot in the head as he exited his patrol car. The second officer returned fire and struck 25-year-old Jerome Damon of Camden.
Damon was found dead a short distance away.
Two other suspects face charges.
Vadell continues to recover after spending weeks in a hospital.
The name of his partner has not been released.
