DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - One of four Arizona men suspected in a fatal home invasion has pleaded guilty to burglary.
The Durango Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2jfnhk5) 20-year-old Daniel Nelson had been facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of 20-year-old Fort Lewis College student Samuel Xarius Gordon.
Nelson could be sentenced April 14 to between 10 and 24 years in prison.
Trials are scheduled in the case for 21-year-old Kuauhtleko Garcia, 19-year-old Kodi Kuauhtli, and 22-year-old Alvin Noel Flores.
They pleaded not guilty.
Authorities say the home invasion in May was an attempt to steal marijuana and cash.
It’s unclear who shot Gordon.
His mom Jeanette Phillips told Judge William Herringer that the deal is premature and Nelson should stand trial like the other men.
Herringer could reject the plea agreement.
