PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 145 years in prison for assaulting and raping five of his 12 children.
The Kitsap Sun reports (https://goo.gl/DHqH1q ) 45-year-old Melford Warren Jr. was sentenced Friday after he was previously convicted for 15 of 22 crimes, including five counts of rape.
Prosecutors say Warren terrorized, isolated and assaulted two women and their dozen children in South Kitsap. Prosecutors described the situation as an extremely abusive environment and a “living nightmare.”
Warren first came to the attention of law enforcement when his 14-month old daughter was taken to a Tacoma hospital with a broken arm in 2014.
Warren didn’t attend his trial after several courtroom outbursts, and made a brief appearance Friday while strapped to a chair.
When his attorney asked him to sign a form, he began yelling that he did not recognize the authority of the court.
