MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Minot police say the practice of serving alcohol at unlicensed premises has been on the rise, with at least two cases over the matter pending.
The two cases involve the hosting of late-night gatherings where alcohol was available in exchange for a donation, the Minot Daily News (https://bit.ly/2kqAAdE) reported. Liquor sales in Minot require both a state and city license.
Jeffrey Young Sr. has pleaded not guilty to not having a required liquor license. He was arrested in November following a police investigation into alcohol being served at a warehouse in south Minot.
A motorcycle club in Minot also faces similar charges after a November 2015 incident outside their clubhouse, where a man was fatally shot and a woman was wounded. Police investigating the incident discovered the group served alcohol inside their clubhouse in exchange for donations.
The city’s liquor and gambling control committee is considering additions to city ordinances regarding liquor sales, including a provision to address the practice of giving away alcohol as a way to attract patrons.
