NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a Newark man shot by a city police officer this week has been charged with eluding.
Essex County prosecutors say 35-year-old Zireek Martin was shot around 1:30 a.m. Friday on South 11th Street. He was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle and remains there in stable condition.
No officers were injured in the incident, which remains under investigation. But further details on the shooting have not been disclosed.
The prosecutor’s office will review the shooting, which is standard procedure in such matters involving police officers.
It wasn’t known Sunday if Martin has retained an attorney.
