PHOENIX (AP) - The Latest on a reported hazardous materials incident (all times local):

11:55 a.m.

Authorities say a hazardous materials situation at a fertilizer business on the far western outskirts of the Phoenix area has been “resolved.”

The Buckeye Valley Fire District says State Route 85 is being reopened and that responders are clearing the area around a Fertizona facility on Baseline Road where an ammonia leak occurred Wednesday morning.

A district spokesman did not immediately respond to a call seeking more information about the leak and what was done in response.



8:25 a.m.

Authorities say hazardous-materials crews are attempting to locate what’s believed to be an ammonia leak at a fertilizer business on the far western outskirts of the Phoenix metro area.

The Buckeye Valley Fire District says there are several mobile agricultural tanks at the Fertizona facility where the ammonia smell was reported Wednesday morning and that locating the leak may take some time.

The intersection of State Route 85 and Baseline Road is closed because of the incident and traffic is being detoured.

7:35 a.m.

Authorities say they’ve confirmed there’s a smell of ammonia at a fertilizer business on the far western outskirts of the Phoenix metro area but no obvious leaks.

Dozens of fire units responded to the Fertizona facility at the intersection of State Route 85 and Baseline Road Wednesday morning. The intersection is closed and traffic is being detoured.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Reda Bigler says crews are developing a plan to deal with the situation and have evacuated a nearby concrete and cement products business.

Dozens of fire units have responded to the location near the intersection of West Baseline Road and State Route 85, and authorities say Baseline Road and northbound State Route 85 are closed at the location.
